Bring the water, sugar, and butter to a boil. Remove from heat; cool. Stir the flour, soda, cream of tartar, raisins, currants, candied fruit peel, and a pinch of nutmeg and allspice together. Add the almonds and stir well. Into a well made in the centre, pour the beaten eggs. Stir well to mix. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 10 inch cake pan. Bake in a 375 degree (F) oven for 1 1/2 hours. Reduce the oven heat to 350 degree (F) and cook for another 30 minutes. Remove, let sit 10 minutes then turn the cake out onto a rack. After it is cooled, store in an airtight tin. Be sure to cut a slice for the Bandruhude (Bean-sidhe).
